Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about #GivingTuesday 2019.

What is #GivingTuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy for worthy causes making a global impact.

Is this Theta Foundation's first #GivingTuesday?

It is our fifth year supporting the global movement! Theta Foundation hosted our first #GivingTuesday in 2015 to support the Give to Lead, Give to Learn endowment campaign to establish a Need-Based Scholarship program and endow Theta's invaluable Educational Leadership Consultants, and since then, it has enabled Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation to secure over $1 million to support the organization's greatest needs. We look forward to another year helping Thetas become their best and supporting our sisterhood!

What is the Theta Forever Fund?

Our Theta Forever Fund represents the incredible unrestricted contributions from alumnae, chapters, and friends of Theta. Just as Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation has been there to support the ambitions, dreams, and pursuits of Thetas since 1960, we continue to facilitate the resources to provide even more opportunities to our Theta sisters. The Theta Forever Fund helps us make certain the Theta experience lives on for future generations!

How does the Theta Forever Fund support Thetas?

Unrestricted gifts to the Theta Forever Fund bridge the gap between the experiences made possible from membership dues and the realities of educational and leadership expenses. Gifts on #GivingTuesday to the Theta Forever Fund--and unrestricted donations throughout the year--are used for the Foundation's annual grant to the Fraternity, the costs that enable us to fulfill our mission, and the programs that keep Theta at the forefront of women’s leadership and learning.

Is my gift to Theta Foundation tax-deductible?

Yes! Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational nonprofit organization. All donations on #GivingTuesday are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of U.S. law. You will receive a receipt for your donation via the email included on the donation form.

Can I make an honor or memorial gift on #GivingTuesday?

Due to the increased activity on #GivingTuesday, it is the only day of the year that Theta Foundation is unable to process honor/memorial gifts for donors. However, on this very special #GivingTuesday, all gifts made today will be combined into a spectacular "Founder's Pansy" in the Sesquicentennial Pansy Patch at Grand Convention! Though you'll have the opportunity to honor Bettie during the official Pansy Patch opening in spring 2020, only gifts made on #GivingTuesday will be recognized as contributions to the "Founder's Pansy."

Your ability to make an honor/memorial gift will resume on Wednesday, December 4th. Today, thank you for helping us celebrate Bettie Locke Hamilton, the Theta who started it all!

Can I mail in a check instead or give over the phone?
